Rendering: Water Feature

This is a test render for a ‘Water Feature’ that’ll show up in a building somewhere. I did this with 3D Studio Max and V-Ray. The basic technique: The water is a high resolution (200×200) plane with a Noise modifier on it, scaled so the noise is stretched vertically. The gizmo is animated downwards at a constant speed, and there’s a glassy-watery shader on the plane. If you don’t know 3D, this sounds like gobbelty gook.

Funny: ‘Keeping Secrets’ Script

I wrote a short film tentatively called ‘Keeping Secrets.’ Normally, Sweaty Robot’s early drafts are cloaked in intrigue and mystery. I thought I’d throw it on here to see your reaction.

Whether we make this or it sits around collecting dust, I think it’s worth putting out there.

Give it a read, after the jump. (more…)

Food: Scrambled Eggs

I’ve come across two remarkable different ways of preparing the ‘perfect’ scrambled egg.

Owner of ‘Egg’ Restaurant is Slow
Gordon Ramsey is Slower

The ones by ‘Egg’ owner, George Weld come out great. I’ve been experimenting with variations on this one for the last couple of months, and it’s been great.

I’ve yet to follow Ramsey’s approach by the letter, but the other morning I did something similar. You can see what I came up with below.

ScramEgg

Eggs warmed to room temperature before cooking, with some milk added, yolks broken up a little bit, sauteed onions mixed in, seasoned near the end of cooking, cooked slow-and-low in butter, off the heat just as the whites turned opaque.

Sometimes I like to julienne some carrots and saute them until crisp-tender right before doing the eggs, then add them as a little bonus garnish.  The texture and sweetness works well with the eggs.  I can see you looking at the screen skeptically.  Try it, it’s good.

Funny: Hurricane Bonnie Cleans Your Crime Scenes

Finding this business card tucked in my windshield wipers makes me question where I live.

Hurricane Bonnie

The name “Hurricane Bonnie” invokes imagery of death, destruction, and lack of FEMA aid, rather than tidiness. And is there really enough of a demand to cleanse crime scenes– residential, commercial, and otherwise– that it deserves third billing on the business card?

What’s going on in my neighborhood?
